The outspoken survivor of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Emma Gonzalez is back in the news.
Republican Leslie Gibson, a candidate for Maine’s House of Representatives just made deplorable comments that cannot be forgiven. The former member of the military is running unopposed in the Maine 57th state district, but he raised eyebrows recently when he tweeted, “There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me,” Gibson tweeted Tuesday, adding, “and there is nothing that she has to say unless you’re frothing at the mouth moonbat.”
He’s since deleted the controversial a tweet and walked back the attacking a bit, but he refuses to apologize for the petty attack. He said on Monday that he pledged, “to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States” when he joined the military.
“Because of this,” he added, “I am very passionate about protecting our constitutional rights from those who seek their elimination. It was not appropriate to single out the Parkland students, but I stand firm in my defense of our constitutional rights.”
If there’s one thing that the Republican Party seems unable to grasp, it’s that Americans are fed up with Trump’s brand of sophomoric name-calling. With Democrats overperforming the president’s 2016 numbers by double digits, it’s only a matter of time before the GOP is relegated from a majority in every branch of government to only a dwindling minority.
