President Donald Trump’s oldest son, Donald Trump Jr does not crave the limelight unlike his sister Ivanka and his father.
In 2006, he told Forbes, “I know the entertainment stuff helps us. But somebody’s got to stay here to remind everybody that we build buildings.”
The eldest Trump’s life has never been free of drama. Trump and his mother, Ivana Trump, divorced when he was a child. After the divorce, he and his brother Eric were sent off to boarding school. When Don Jr. was 12, he went an entire year without speaking to his father.
Trump encouraged the tabloids to discuss his divorce with Ivana, provoking the estrangement. Ivana has said of Trump’s relationship with his children, “When they turned 21, I handed them over to him and said, ‘Here’s the finished product.’”
After Don Jr. graduated from college, he took a year off from school. He spent that time in Aspen, Colorado. During that year, he said he “hunted, fished, and camped, lived out of the back of a truck, and bartended.”
In 2001, Donald Jr. was arrested for public drunkenness. Admitting that he has trouble with moderation, his antics landed him in jail, where he spent about 11 hours.
Trump Jr. is an avid hunter and outdoorsman — skills he learned from his maternal grandfather. He spent six to eight weeks of his summers growing up with his grandfather in Czechoslovakia. He saw his grandfather as a role model.
His love of hunting drew harsh reactions after a photo of he and his brother Eric holding a leopard they hunted and killed made its rounds on the internet.
He was, and is, one of his father’s biggest political supporters. He, like his father, has garnered harsh criticism for inappropriate remarks made on social media. He once posted a picture of a bowl of skittles that read: “If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you. Would you take a handful? That’s our Syrian refugee problem.”
Don Jr. arranged the now notorious Trump Tower meeting with a Kremlin lawyer and other Russians, which has landed him as a central figure in Mueller’s investigation. He was also in contact with WikiLeaks during the 2016 election. He was part of the transition team.
Don Jr. and his brother Eric currently serve as trustees of the Trump Organization while their father is president.
