Melania Trump just arrived in Malawi and was greeted by the perfect anti-Trump protest signs

Melania Trump’s trip to Africa wasn’t enough for her to escape the omnipresent malignance of President Donald Trump.

Upon her arrival in Malawi, she was greeted by expat demonstrators who proudly proclaimed that Malawi was not a “shithole country” and welcomed her to “Nambia,” the fictitious African nationthat Trump referred to in a speech to African leaders.

Another protester held up a sign that “69 Days Past the Deadline to Reunite Families,” a painful reminder that the Trump administration has failed to fully reunite the thousandsof children that his Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) took from their parents upon their arrest at the border.

The “shithole” sign refers to an incident where President Trump once infamously complained about how he didn’t want immigrants from “shithole” countries in Africa and the Caribbean and instead preferred immigrants from places like Norway, an obvious code for “white people.”

It was impossible to ignore the racist undertones of the remarks, especially after it was reported that he referred to Haitians and Nigerians “all have AIDS” and would “never return to their huts.”

The protesters are a sharp reminder that no matter where you go, the United States president and his family are unwelcome figures, thanks to his administration’s appalling racism and casual cruelty. Our next leader is going to have a lot of work to do to repair our nation’s reputation in the eyes of the rest of the world.
