President Trump just couldn’t help himself despite promising not to golf over the holiday weekend “out of respect” for the victims of the Parkland School Shooting, hit the green while two funerals were being held only 30 minutes away.
The student survivors, who have already been very vocal about their displeasure with Trump and the GOP, are even more furious now.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students invited Trump to speak at a town hall on gun violence, but the president declined, students told CNN. He then suggested a “listening session,” though it wasn’t clear if Parkland students would be invited.
“If Donald Trump wants to listen to us, he should have taken the first invitation,” survivor Alex Wind told CNN. “We are not going to come to him. He is going to need to come to us.”
“The fact that he has organized this just proves that he’s scared of us and that he doesn’t want to have to face us,” fellow survivor Emma Gonzalez told CNN.
Student David Hogg blasted Trump on Twitter. “This is atrocious, golf over children’s blood?!?!” he tweeted. “What does that say about our future. You are either for or against the children and right now your against them. This is why we must take action because these politicians won’t.”
This is atrocious, golf over children's blood?!?! What does that say about our future. You are either for or against the children and right now your against them. This is why we must take action because these politicians won't. @realDonaldTrump https://t.co/fCwq7xK2bK
