On a Southwest flight from Portland to Sacramento, a 24-year-old woman,Curbelo, was caught smoking in the bathroom after tampering with the smoke detector. When flight attendants made her stop smoking and return to her seat, she lost it.
“I swear, if you don’t f*cking land, I will f*cking kill everybody on this f*cking plane!” Curbelo shouted.
Southwest released a statement saying:
“Our reports from flight attendants indicate a customer violated federal laws by both smoking onboard an aircraft and by tampering with a smoke detector in an aircraft restroom. Our Crew enforced the regulation and that was followed by the passenger outburst,” Southwest said. “The safety of our crew and passengers is our top priority and we take all threats seriously.”
In an interview with CBS13’s Marc Thompson, Curbelo claimed that she tried to sneak a cigarette because of her anxiety. But she didn’t say what was making her anxious or why she threatened to kill everyone on board, just that “it was not me.”
She’s currently being held on $75,000 bail and charged with three felony counts of threats to commit a crime resulting in death.
